Biography and Profession:

Comprehensive and excellent urological care

Since I was little, my father awakened in me a vocation oriented toward medicine. However, it was not until I finished my medical studies that I discovered the specialty of Urology during a training stay at the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital in Granada. There are those who are fans of soccer, tennis or golf; and there are also lovers of history, the sea or literature. Well, I can say without fear of being wrong that my hobby, my passion and my vital motivation is UROLOGY. My profession is not just my job, it is my lifestyle and that is why I like to do things at the highest level and using my full potential.

Clinical care and science go hand in hand.

“I do not understand clinical care without the basic science that supports it; just as I do not understand basic science without the clinical assistance that feeds it.”

Although my daily routine revolves around clinical care, I cannot understand care without science, nor science without care. From my point of view, optimal clinical care is not possible if the basic science that has generated the knowledge is not known in depth. Likewise, basic science cannot be strengthened or find new answers if the clinical need that asks to be investigated is not known in depth. The development of this science-care binomial is only possible by listening to and understanding the needs and problems of patients in each clinical scenario.

For this reason, I dedicate a large part of my free time to research in urological diseases and combine my daily healthcare activity with participation in numerous studies and clinical trials.

“Execute your knowledge with the mastery of someone who continues to learn.”

Although the bulk of my training in Urology was carried out at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada, I have always tried to advance my knowledge and complement my skills at Centers of internationally recognized prestige such as the Ludwig Maximilians Hospital (LMU). of Munich, the La Paz Hospital of Madrid, the Center for Urethral Reconstructive Surgery of Arezzo in Italy or the Institut Mutualist Montsouris (IMM) of Paris.

My clinical activity focuses mainly on UroOncology (prostate, bladder, kidney and penis cancer) and Reconstructive Urology (urethral stricture, urinary fistulas, Peyronie’s disease, incontinence devices and penile prostheses). Most of my research activity in prostate cancer is carried out at the Center for Genomic and Oncological Research (GenyO) and within the framework of the European Group of Young Researchers (YAU-EAU). I am currently Chief Coordinator of one of the 5 National Reference Units (CSUR) of Complex Urethral Reconstructive Surgery in Spain. In addition, I am the director of several doctoral theses on urethral strictures and prostate cancer and I am permanently involved in clinical trials and projects on bladder cancer and reconstructive surgery.
